چکیده

3D Image Analysis and Synthesis, pp. 61–66,Erlangen, November 1996. In this paper we present two methods to improve the accuracy of three-dimensional motion estimation in analysis synthesis coding by using illumination models. A Lambertian and a reflectance map approach are given which are both computationally efficient. Experiments on real images show that the mean squared error between synthetic and camera images compared to global illumination compensation can be reduced by a factor of 4 and 5, respectively.

Joint Estimation of Object Motion and Point Light Illumination for 3D–Object–Based Analysis–Synthesis Coding

In video telephone scenes to be transmitted at low data rates non–diffuse scene illumination has to be expected. In this contribution, non–diffuse scene illumination and 3D object motion is estimated concurrently from a monocular image sequence. Image analysis uses the source model ”3D rigid moving objects with non–diffuse illumination”. The illumination is modeled by a distant point light sour...

An Illumination Estimation Method for 3D–Object–Based Analysis–Synthesis Coding

In video telephone scenes to be transmitted at low data rates, non–diffuse illumination has to be expected. Therefore, in this work the scene illumination is automatically estimated from a monocular image sequence in addition to shape and motion of moving objects. Image analysis uses the source model ”moving rigid 3D objects with nonuniform local illumination”. The irradiance is modelled by a d...

Video Coding Algorithm for Video Sequences with Abrupt Luminance Change

In this paper, a fast motion compensation algorithm is proposed that improves coding efficiency for video sequences with brightness variations. We also propose a cross entropy measure between histograms of two frames to detect brightness variations. The framewise brightness variation parameters, a multiplier and an offset field for image intensity, are estimated and compensated. Simulation resu...

Motion Estimation and Compensation Under Varying Illumination

In this paper we propose a new approach to motion-compensated ltering of image sequences that contain time-varying illumination. There are two contributions in this paper. First, we propose a new method for the estimation of dense 2-D motion that is robust to time-varying illumination often present in images. We deene the structural model that is based on the assumption of intensity gradient co...

Rate-constrained multihypothesis prediction for motion-compensated video compression

This article investigates linearly combined motion-compensated signals for video compression. In particular, we discuss multiple motion-compensated signals that are jointly estimated for efficient prediction and video coding. First, we extend the wide-sense stationary theory of motion-compensated prediction for the case of jointly estimated prediction signals. Our theory suggests that the gain ...
